Welcome. We are the Anne Arundel County Asperger Support Group, in Maryland U.S.A.

Our group is dedicated to the advocacy and developmental needs of children who have been
diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.

We meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7-9pm (during the school year and excluding December).
We meet at St. Martin in the Field Church, located at 375 Benfield Blvd in Severna Park, Maryland

Our meetings are open to the public, free of charge, registration free, and, best of all, we welcome everyone who has an interest in Aspergers Syndrome to attend. Our next meeting is on October 15, 2008.

Our upcoming meetings and other events.

October 15 - Our regular monthly meeting. We hope to have Claudine Knopf as our guest speaker. Claudine is an experienced Special Education teacher and skilled consultant and advocate for students with special needs and their families. As a mother of two children, she understands the benefits and challenges of the educational system from a parents’ perspective.

Special Notes:

Dr. Maximilian Riesenhuber at Georgetown University is beginning an autism-related study and is seeking adults on the spectrum who are interested in participating in behavioral and fMRI neuroimaging experiments at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Recruitment will begin immediately, and continue at least until the summer. A description of the study is here.

The Unicorn Center - Therapeutic horseback riding program in Bowie. They specialize in emotional, learning and behavioral disabilities. Their center is open 7 days a week, 8 am to 7 pm, and enrollment is constant; participants can join the program at anytime.

Be A Part of Brain Research! - Kennedy Krieger

Dr. Stewart H. Mostofsky and Dr. Melissa Goldberg of the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine are recruiting children with high-functioning autism between 8 and 12 years of age to participate in a study of attention, learning, memory, and motor skills.

The study involves paper and pencil tasks, computer activities and an MRI of the brain. None of the tests are harmful or painful and are done free of charge. The duration of the study is two to three sessions conducted on separate days. Participants will receive a $50 check and a picture of their brain. Parents will receive a report summarizing the IQ testing administered to their child. All testing is done free of charge.

Jack Thomas, a 10th grader at a school for autistic teenagers and an expert on the nation's roadways, tore himself away from his satellite map one recent recess period to critique a television program about the search for a cure for autism.
