Who is eligible?
Children with Asperger syndrome or high-functioning autism between
the ages of 8 and 11 years
What will the study involve?
1. Eligibility assessment: no more than 1 hour in duration
2. Twice a week individual therapeutic sessions (to take place
at your home or in the University's clinic): 45 min to 1 hour in
duration, for approximately 10 weeks
3. Three assessments of skills learned: to take place at 1 week
and 2 weeks after therapeutic sessions are completed
-- this intervention will be offered at no cost to participants
What is the aim of the study?
The study aims to improve the ability of your child to recognize
emotions from facial expressions, which is often an area of difficulty
for children with Asperger syndrome and high-functioning autism.
Six emotions will be targeted, and the study will incorporate several
teaching modalities (e.g., pictures, videos) to help your child
improve his/her emotion recognition skills. Intervention will also
include several breaks and fun activities to help keep your child
engaged and learning!
